During Term 1, Year 9 Indonesian students learned about the different places where Indonesian people like to shop; and finished the term by participating in a role-play of an Indonesian market bargaining scene, focusing on the cultural dance of negotiation.
The aim of the role-play was to reach a happy compromise for both the seller (penjual) and the buyer (pembeli). The role-play began with a friendly greeting with the buyer then asking the price of an item, "berapa harganya?". Once a final price was agreed upon, the deal was sealed, and a polite "terima kasih," honouring the cultural obligation of the purchase brought the negotiation to an end.
