Gold at Glasgow for Blake Agnoletto

The Class of 2020 alumnus, Blake Agnoletto, made history when he won the inaugural men’s elimination race in cycling, which was included in the Commonwealth Games for the first time at Glasgow. 

The elimination race involves the last two riders of each lap being eliminated from the field until the remaining two riders battle it out to win.

Blake was also part of the team that won silver medals in the men’s 4000m team pursuit the day before his gold medal race.

This was Blake's first time at the Commonwealth Games. He won the Bendigo International Madison in 2024.

His family was on hand to support him in Glasgow and share in the celebration.

Blake told the media after the race:  

“The last bit of the race, I felt really good, so I was able to attack it from the back and watch if people were coming, and ride up onto the hip of the people in front of me.”

“It’s a bit cocky to say, but I knew I could do it. So I just launched and didn’t look back.”

Blake wasn't the only Catherine McAuley College Bendigo alumnus competing at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Aaron Wilson (Class of 2009) was aiming for a third straight men’s singles title in lawn bowls, which would have made him the first Australian bowler to win three Games gold medals. Unfortunately, he narrowly missed out and had to settle for fourth place.
