Designing for Dignity

Product Design Technologies Unit 2 - designing for dignity, independence and inclusion

Designing for Dignity, Independence and Inclusion

Product Design Technologies – Unit 2

Our VCE Product Design Technologies Unit 2 students recently welcomed Claire Murray (Catherine McAuley College Bendigo Occupational Therapist), who shared how human-centred and inclusive design can improve the lives of people living with disabilities. Through real-world case studies, students explored how thoughtful design solutions can remove barriers, promote independence, and create greater participation in everyday life.

Claire's presentation highlighted the strong connection between design and allied health, demonstrating how skills developed through Product Design Technologies can contribute to careers focused on improving health and wellbeing.

The students were set a challenge to come up with design options that would suit one of the individuals presented in the case study. Students are now using this information to investigate their own case study and apply their findings to Semester 2 design projects, developing innovative solutions that support dignity, independence, and inclusion.
