On Monday 10 August, the Year 8 Girls and Boys Basketball Teams represented the College at the Sandhurst Division tournament held at Red Energy Arena. Both teams had a fantastic day and their results are below.

Year 8 Girls

The Year 8 girls demonstrated outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day. Their campaign began with a commanding victory over Eaglehawk Secondary College. They finished with a score of 31‍-6‍, which not only saw them play some terrific team-focused basketball, but it also gave them some confidence to build on across the day.

In Game 2, the team continued their strong form, defeating Weeroona College, 38-6.

Despite a determined effort in Game 3, the girls fell short of another win to a formidable Marist College Bendigo team, who simply outclassed them at times, which proved to be the difference, going down 15-25.

The girls bounced back in Game 4, securing an impressive win against East Loddon P-12 College, 18-6.

Although the team narrowly missed out on a Grand Final berth, finishing second in their pool behind eventual champions Marist, their commitment and spirit were evident in every match. Special thanks to Emily Harris and Greta Pollock for their invaluable help with scoring.

Year 8 Boys

Our Year 8 Boys Basketball team had an outstanding day at the recent Sandhurst tournament, winning four of their five matches and finishing as runners-up.

The boys started strongly with a 35-7 victory over Eaglehawk Secondary College. Isaac led the defensive effort with some tough defence, while Jessie impressed with several intercepts and Chetty moved the ball well with some excellent passing.

In Game 2, the team defeated Weeroona College, 24-4. Eddie dominated the boards with strong rebounding, while Gus helped control the game through smart playmaking.

A hard-fought third match against Marist College Bendigo saw the boys come away with a 10-5 win. Jensen produced a huge defensive performance, Josh showed excellent ball control, and Will scored some crucial baskets at key moments.

The team finished the pool matches with a convincing 35-4 win over East Loddon P-12 College. Tommy was outstanding in finishing scoring opportunities, while Archie sealed the victory with calm free-throw shooting late in the game.

In the final against Victory Christian College, the boys battled hard against strong opposition. Will was dominant in offence, while Isaac and Josh applied constant pressure to the opposition ball carriers. Despite their efforts, the team went down 9-18 to finish as tournament runners-up.

A big thank you goes to Marcus for scoring throughout the day, Jake Gribble for helping coach, as well as the umpires and parents for their support and encouragement. The boys represented the school with pride and displayed great sportsmanship and teamwork. They should be very proud of their efforts.

We would also like to thank our Year 9 Leaders, James Everton, Aaron Crewes and Lilly McMaster, who refereed for the day; they were very professional and ensured the day ran smoothly.
