Book Week 2026

This year for Book Week, we decided to 'go big or go home'.

We launched our competitions at the start of the term. These included a poster design competition based on the Book Week theme 'A Symphony of Stories', Shelfies (where students matched bookshelves to teachers), Create a Playlist for Your Favourite Book, and Summarise a Book in Six Words.

We hosted two Shadow Judging book clubs: one during library lessons, where students reviewed and voted for their favourite picture book, and a smaller group that explored the shortlisted books through reviews and creative responses.

We were lucky to have Amy Doak visit and speak to students from Years 7, 8 and 9 as a pre-Book Week activity.

During Book Week itself, we held a special event each day, including Dress-Up Day, a Book Rave, Book Cake Day, Wooden Bookmark Decorating Day, and a library scavenger hunt.

In Years 7-9 library lessons, students participated in a picture book review competition, where the class that produced the best response and selected the winning picture book received a prize. We also ran a public speaking activity where students were given a shortlisted Younger Readers book, along with a synopsis and review, and challenged to persuade their classmates to read it. 

Finally, all classes took part in a library escape room, which was a huge hit.
