Victorian School Netball Championships

Finals Day

On Thursday 3 September, our Intermediate and Senior Girls Netball Teams travelled to the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Parkville to participate in the Victorian Schools Netball Championships Finals Day.

Intermediate Girls

The Intermediate Girls had five games to play for the day, and the girls were excited to have this opportunity. Unfortunately, despite the energy and positivity, the final scores were as follows:

• Game 1 vs Flinders Christian College 7-13
• Game 2 vs Firbank Grammar School 7-17
• Game 3 vs St Joseph's College Echuca 5-22
• Game 4 vs The Geelong College 9-13
• Game 5 vs Ballarat Clarendon College 8-12

The girls fought hard all day and had a lot of fun. This was the first time that many had all played together, and despite this challenge, they all did an incredible job. Thanks so much to all players for your flexibility, energy, and positivity.

Senior Girls

Having qualified through a strong regional campaign, the Senior Girls were excited for the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best school netball teams in Victoria.

With seven games scheduled throughout the day and very little time between matches for rest, recovery, food or drink, the challenge was always going to be significant. The girls embraced the opportunity, displaying resilience, determination and outstanding teamwork from start to finish.

The results were:

Game 1 - Win vs Padua College (17-13)

A good, steady opening game saw the girls settle into the day well. The girls looked composed with ball in hand and maintained control for much of the match, eventually coming away with a solid 17-13 victory.

Game 2 - Loss vs Sacré Cœur (9-12)

This match proved to be one of the toughest and most highly skilled contests of the day. Scores were level at half time as both teams fought hard for every possession. Despite a determined effort, Sacré Cœur gained the ascendancy in the second half, and the girls went down 9-12.

Game 3 - Win vs Aquinas College (11-7)

The girls responded strongly to the previous result, getting off to a terrific start and establishing an early lead. Consistent defensive pressure and patient attacking play allowed the girls to maintain control and record a terrific 11-7 win.

Game 4 - Win vs Peninsula Grammar (14-12)

In a closely contested, goal-for-goal encounter, the girls led by two goals at half-time. Some centre-court changes provided fresh energy in the second half as both teams continued to battle hard. The girls held their composure in the closing stages of the match to secure an impressive 14-12 victory.

Game 5 - Loss vs The Geelong College (10-17)

The Geelong College were a well-drilled outfit and presented a significant challenge. The girls competed strongly in the opening half and trailed by just one goal at the main break. Unfortunately, the opposition lifted to another level in the second half and despite the teams very best efforts, they went down 10-17.

Game 6 - Win vs Trinity College Colac (15-11)

This was a really important win gave the girls the opportunity to rotate some fresh legs onto the court. The girls worked hard across all areas of the game, controlling possession and converting opportunities impressively to finish with a strong 15-11 victory.

Game 7 - Loss vs Rowville Secondary College (6-10)

Going into the final game of the day, the girls were still in the hunt for a place in the Semi Finals and knew a good win would keep those hopes alive. The girls entered the match determined and focused. It was a closely contested battle throughout, with only a turnover separating the two teams for much of the match. The effort and intensity never dropped, but Rowville were able to edge ahead late, with the final score reading 6-10.

While the girls narrowly missed out on a Semi Final berth, the day was an outstanding achievement by the entire team. Competing against the strongest schools in the state, across so many games with minimal recovery time, required enormous physical and mental resilience. Every player contributed to the team's success through their effort, positivity and willingness to put the team first.

The girls represented the College with pride and professionalism throughout the day, and they should be incredibly proud of their achievement in reaching the State Finals and competing so strongly against elite opposition.
