Junior Girls Netball

On Friday 4 September, our Year 7 and Year 8 Girls Netball Teams proudly represented CMCB at the SSV State Finals, competing against some of the best school netball teams from across Victoria.

Year 7 Girls

Our Year 7 Girls represented the school with pride at the SSV Netball State Championships, finishing as State Championship runners-up after an outstanding day of competition.

The team started strongly with a hard-fought 24-21 victory over Kambrya College before backing it up with an impressive 28-10 win against Diamond Valley College. Their final pool match saw them face Emmanuel College, where they suffered a narrow 18-21 defeat.

Despite the loss, the girls showed great resilience to earn a place in the semi-final against Rowville Secondary College. In one of their best performances of the day, the girls controlled the match from start to finish, securing a convincing 19-12 win and booking their spot in the Grand Final.

The championship decider provided a rematch against Emmanuel College. The girls battled courageously throughout the contest, displaying determination and skill, but ultimately fell short 19-23 to finish as State runners-up.

While the results were impressive, what stood out most was the way the team conducted themselves throughout the tournament. The girls demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for their opponents, officials, and spectators. Their class, commitment, and talent were evident in every match, making the entire school community incredibly proud of their achievements.

Year 8 Girls

The day began for the Year 8 Girls with a challenging first match against Koo Wee Rup Secondary College. A slow start saw the girls fall behind early by double digits, but they responded with outstanding teamwork. Refusing to give in, they fought their way back into the contest, reducing the margin significantly before eventually going down by just five goals. The perseverance they showed in this game set the tone for the remainder of the day.

The second match against Diamond Valley College was a standout performance. The girls displayed incredible composure throughout this match, proving they belonged at the state level. In a closely contested game, they held their nerve to secure a thrilling two-goal victory.

They backed this up with another strong performance in their third match against Emmanuel College, overcoming intense pressure to claim another hard-fought one goal win. Despite opening the day with a loss, the team finished on top of their pool, an outstanding achievement against such high-quality opposition.

Their semi-final saw them take on the always-strong Rowville Secondary College. With several players managing injuries and recovering from illness throughout the day, a reshuffle of positions was required. The girls were incredibly adaptable, willingly stepping into unfamiliar roles and supporting one another wherever needed. Their teamwork and commitment were exceptional, and they pushed Rowville all the way before narrowly going down by just four goals 18-22.

The quality and evenness of the competition was highlighted by the fact that Emmanuel College, whom our girls had defeated earlier in the day, went on to win the State Championship, defeating Rowville in the Grand Final. To have beaten the eventual champions demonstrates just how competitive and capable this group was throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to all players on an outstanding achievement. Their effort, sportsmanship, commitment and teamwork made CMCB extremely proud and showcased the very best of school sport.
