Unit 2 Environmental Science Stencilling Project

Unit 2 Environmental Science students have painted awareness messages beside stormwater drains around the school and local community.

Turning learning into action

As part of the Yaram Yaram Bayikina (Bendigo Creek Reawakening) project, our Unit 2 Environmental Science students have turned their learning into action by painting awareness messages beside stormwater drains around the school and local community.

Their message, "From your street to Bendigo Creek", highlights an important fact: water entering stormwater drains is not treated before reaching local waterways. Along with rainwater, litter and other pollutants can be carried directly into Bendigo Creek.

Yaram Yaram Bayikina is a partnership between the North Central CMA, City of Greater Bendigo and Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation (DJAARA), working to reconnect the community with Bendigo Creek and inspire positive action for its future.

Through projects such as this, students not only learn about environmental issues, but also become active citizens who can make a genuine difference in their community. By raising awareness and encouraging small changes in behaviour, they are helping build a stronger connection to, and care for, Bendigo Creek for future generations.
