SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA - SANDHURST DIVISION
The Intermediate Boys Cricket Team had a strong showing in their recent matches at the Sandhurst Division Competition, played at the Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct.
In Game 1 against Crusoe College, CMCB won the toss and chose to field. Captain Charlie Macumber led the bowling with excellent line and length and was well supported by Jaxon Kelly. Jake Rosa also impressed with the ball, coming on to bowl in the final over and almost snagging two wickets. Crusoe were restricted to just 79 from their allotted 15 overs. Jaxon Kelly (52 retired) and Keelan McInerney batted brilliantly in the early overs to set the tone for those to follow, with Miller Polglase adding some fireworks in the middle order as CMCB chased down the target comfortably.
Game 2 saw the boys take on Bendigo South East College. Batting first, CMCB got off to a flying start with Tarkyn Ralphs smashing a six off the first ball and Miller Evans displaying some powerful hitting. Quick wickets however, brought Jaxon Kelly and Miller Polglase back to the crease, and both played impressively. Jamison Westley added late runs to push the CMCB total out to a competitive score of 120.
BSE went about the chase methodically and in the end proved that smart batting in a pressure situation was the key. It was a tight finish as BSE slowly ticked off the runs, with them requiring a run per ball off the last over. The game came down to the last ball with BSE requiring 2 runs to win. BSE managed just 1 run to tie the match, however they secured the win based on fewer wickets lost.
Strong leadership from Charlie Macumber, consistent and entertaining batting from Jaxon Kelly and Miller Polglase, solid contributions from Tarkyn Ralphs, Miller Evans, and Jamison Westley were highlights of the day. The team showed fantastic skill, teamwork, and determination across both games.
