Year 7 News - 30 April 2026

Recognition of Achievement Awards

Art Design with Mrs Richardson

Welcome back!

What a beautiful week of weather as the Year 7s settle into Term 2. It has been great to see the Year 7s happily reconnect with their friends and teachers, and embrace the learning opportunities provided in their Learning Areas. Our Year 7 Leadership Team are busily organising the final aspects of our Encounter Day occurring in May - a letter will be sent out shortly with more information for families.

The students are looking very crisp in their winter uniforms, with most wearing their blazer and tie correctly. Please continue to communicate with your Mercy Homegroup Leader if there are any issues with the wearing of the correct uniform on a daily basis, as we require parent/carer notification if your child is out of the correct uniform so we can record this and keep track of any supply issues or concerns that families may be facing.

A reminder about phones: no phones or personal digital devices are to be seen with students once they have arrived onto the College grounds as communicated at the end of Term 1. At the end of the day, upon leaving school, they may need them to communicate with a parent/carer, but we ask families to discuss phone safety with their child/ren so that we can work together to keep all students in our community safe.

Congratulations to all Year 7s who participated respectfully in our Anzac Liturgy, and especially those who represented the cohort by taking on roles in the liturgy. They were magnificent.

Student-led Conferences provide an excellent opportunity to connect with your child’s subject teacher. Please work in partnership with them to ensure your child is making progress, and regularly check in with your child by asking:

  • Do you have any homework? (Yes - English and Maths homework is weekly; other subjects may occasionally set homework tasks)
  • What were your results on your latest assessments, and how can you improve? (You can check this on PAM; your child can find these on SIMON; you can check this through the SIMON fortnightly digests that are emailed to you)
  • What assessments are coming up and what can you do to prepare? (You can check this on PAM; they can check this on their SIMON calendar)

If you have concerns more broadly about your child’s academic progress, please contact our Year Level Learning Leader, Mrs Sarah Cody, who will be more than happy to discuss this with you.

RECOGNITION OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

In our Year 7 assemblies, we regularly celebrate academic growth and achievement.

Congratulations to the following students for their overall high achievement in Term 1: Matilda Palmer, Audrey Smythe, Louisa Sesso Hull and Harriet Schuster.

LEARNING

Year 7 Art Design with Mrs Richardson

Mrs Richardson teaches five Year 7 Art Design classes, and in them, students are exposed to a high level of skill and expertise, working hard to apply new skills to create visually-appealing designs in a calm and collaborative environment.
