Celebrating 150 years of the Sisters of Mercy in Bendigo - 24 April 2026
Last Friday, 24 April, was a significant anniversary in our sesquicentennial year.
On 24 April 1876, the Foundation Sisters opened St Aloysius Select School in a wooden schoolhouse behind the convent in Barkly Street. The first school enrolled both primary and secondary students, boys and girls, with the first student listed as Miss K Abberton of Bridge Street (see image of first enrolment register). By the end of 1876, 100 children were enrolled.
Catherine McAuley College Bendigo would not exist, nor have the identity that we are so proud of, without the resilience and fortitude of the founding Sisters. The Mercy Sisters were the foundation of schools and parishes across Bendigo. They were fundamental to the establishment of Catholic education across Bendigo and had the vision and trust to empower the laity to maintain the legacy and grow. In partnership with the Marist Brothers, who arrived in the 1890s, they developed and sustained Catholic Education in central Victoria for decades, continuously opening or assuming schools to ensure that Catholic education thrived.
New Board Chair for Mercy Education Limited
Congratulations to Ms Audrey Brown who has recently been appointed as Board Chair of Mercy Education Limited. Many will be familiar with Audrey, she is a Bendigo person and an outstanding appointment, bringing extensive experience in Catholic education, governance and ministry leadership, together with a deep commitment to the Mercy charism and the mission of Catholic education in Australia.
'Back To' Day, Saturday 2 May - all welcome!
I extend a warm welcome to our community to attend a special celebration this Saturday, a traditional ‘Back To’ Day at St Mary’s Campus (11am-3pm). The celebrations will commence with Mass in the historic Chapel, celebrated by Fr Jake Mudge with con-celebrant Fr Jackson Saunders (both alumni of the College), followed by the launch of a commemorative book, music performed by students, an exhibition of memorabilia, the opening of the Jubilee Art Show, and student-led tours of the campus. All past and current students, parents and staff are invited to attend. (Find out more or RSVP)
Anzac Day Liturgies
It was good to see the reverence shown by students at the Anzac Liturgies held at Coolock and St Mary’s last week. Well done to the students and musicians who led these and thank you to Mrs Suzie Kemp and our college captains who represented CMCB at the Anzac Day Morning Service. (Read more)
Celebrating 150 years of the Sisters of Mercy in Bendigo - 24 April 2026
Throughout 2026, Catherine McAuley College Bendigo is celebrating 150 years since the arrival of Mother Aloysius Martyn and the Sisters of Mercy in 1876, marking the commencement of their ministry of Catholic education in Bendigo. Throughout the year, the College is celebrating and honouring the pioneering spirit of the foundation Sisters and the thousands of children and educators who have been part of the Mercy story.
Just two months later, the Bendigo Advertiser reported that the school would soon require an extension to keep up with admissions. “Parents of various denominations apparently prefer sending their children to this school, because of the high-class education the accomplished Sisters are capable of imparting.”
"The Mercy Sisters were the foundation of schools and parishes across Bendigo. They were fundamental to the establishment of Catholic education across Bendigo, and had the vision and trust to empower the laity to maintain the legacy and grow. In partnership with the Marist Brothers, who arrived in the 1890s, they developed and sustained Catholic Education in central Victoria for decades, continuously opening or assuming schools to ensure that Catholic education thrived." (Brian Turner, Principal)
In 2026, Catherine McAuley College Bendigo continues that pioneering legacy of service with a co-educational secondary school set on two magnificent campuses, providing a diverse choice of educational pathways in the Mercy tradition for over 1500 students.
'Back To' Day, Saturday 2 May - All Welcome!
On Saturday 2 May, a traditional ‘Back To’ Day will be held at the Barkly Street Campus.
The ‘Back To’ Day continues the series of celebratory events enjoyed earlier in the year. On Friday 6 March, in the first of a series of events, the International Women’s Day Breakfast was an opportunity for current and past students, staff, and community members to enjoy an inspirational morning of joy and emotion, reflecting on the diverse and amazing achievements of women associated with our College. Panellists, Grace Aicken, Cr Andrea Metcalf, Justine Minne, Leila Gurruwiwi and Abbey Milligan each shared unique perspectives on how their school experiences have influenced their careers and highlighted their different pathways in leadership and service.
At the end of Term 1, staff enjoyed a day of discovery to learn more about the history of the College, including a pilgrimage to St Kilian’s Church, walking in the footsteps of the founding Sisters and historical tours of the Chapel (1884) and original St Mary’s College (1897).
On Friday 22 May, the festivities continue with a Performance Gala to celebrate the musical talent that has been fostered by the College for 150 years. The joyful concert, in the spirit of the founding Sisters, will relive the excitement and magic of past performances and reunite members of our ‘music family’ in what is sure to be an emotional ‘where are they now’ event.
The pinnacle of the year’s celebrations will be the Sesquicentennial Gala Dinner on Saturday 5 September. This night to remember will enable all eras to gather, share stories, reunite with friends and celebrate 150 years of Catherine McAuley College Bendigo.
Timeline of Catherine McAuley College Bendigo
In our campus communities on Friday 24 April, we observed liturgies that honoured the Anzacs, as well as all past and present serving members of our defence forces.
On Saturday 25 April, CMCB leaders joined the Bendigo community for the Morning Service at the Soldiers Memorial Institute to lay a wreath.
Loving and compassionate God,
May we carry forward the spirit of ANZAC, courage, endurance and mateship, into our own lives and relationships.
May we continue to walk gently on this land, in the footsteps of those who come before us, and alongside those who still serve today.

How to Help Your Child Navigate the World of AI and Study
Next week, Elevate will run their first free webinar for Term 2. It is a brand-new parent webinar focused on artificial intelligence and study — an area many schools and families are currently navigating.
In their recent survey of over 3,000 students, theyfound that 75% are already using AI when they study. However, over 40% reported using it primarily to answer homework questions or write essays for them, rather than to support their learning.
The upcoming parent webinar will help parents understand what AI tools such as large language models actually are, the most common mistakes students make when using them, and how they can support ethical, effective AI use at home.
We encourage you to put the Term 2 dates for all upcoming seminars in your calendar now.

Welcome back!
What a beautiful week of weather as the Year 7s settle into Term 2. It has been great to see the Year 7s happily reconnect with their friends and teachers, and embrace the learning opportunities provided in their Learning Areas. Our Year 7 Leadership Team are busily organising the final aspects of our Encounter Day occurring in May - a letter will be sent out shortly with more information for families.
The students are looking very crisp in their winter uniforms, with most wearing their blazer and tie correctly. Please continue to communicate with your Mercy Homegroup Leader if there are any issues with the wearing of the correct uniform on a daily basis, as we require parent/carer notification if your child is out of the correct uniform so we can record this and keep track of any supply issues or concerns that families may be facing.
A reminder about phones: no phones or personal digital devices are to be seen with students once they have arrived onto the College grounds as communicated at the end of Term 1. At the end of the day, upon leaving school, they may need them to communicate with a parent/carer, but we ask families to discuss phone safety with their child/ren so that we can work together to keep all students in our community safe.
Congratulations to all Year 7s who participated respectfully in our Anzac Liturgy, and especially those who represented the cohort by taking on roles in the liturgy. They were magnificent.
Student-led Conferences provide an excellent opportunity to connect with your child’s subject teacher. Please work in partnership with them to ensure your child is making progress, and regularly check in with your child by asking:
If you have concerns more broadly about your child’s academic progress, please contact our Year Level Learning Leader, Mrs Sarah Cody, who will be more than happy to discuss this with you.
RECOGNITION OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
In our Year 7 assemblies, we regularly celebrate academic growth and achievement.
Congratulations to the following students for their overall high achievement in Term 1: Matilda Palmer, Audrey Smythe, Louisa Sesso Hull and Harriet Schuster.
LEARNING
Year 7 Art Design with Mrs Richardson
Mrs Richardson teaches five Year 7 Art Design classes, and in them, students are exposed to a high level of skill and expertise, working hard to apply new skills to create visually-appealing designs in a calm and collaborative environment.
Welcome to Term 2. Hopefully you have all had the opportunity to have a restful Easter break.
Uniform
The beginning of Term 2 marks a change in uniform to the winter academic uniform. Please note that the College blazer is a compulsory winter uniform item and must be worn as the top layer (with or without the jumper underneath).
Blazers need to be worn to and from school during Terms 2 and 3. At school, blazers are to be worn for Mercy Homegroup until recess. After this, they can be stored in students' lockers for the rest of the day if they are too hot. The blazer does not need to be worn during break times.
The College tie must also be worn and appropriately leather lace-up shoes (not sports shoes).
Long or short-sleeve shirts must be tucked in. Long pants or shorts may be worn.
Upcoming Events
We are very excited to announce that Year 8 Encounter Day is in Week 5, on Wednesday 20 May. Students will reflect upon the Parable of the Good Samaritan as well as listen to guest speakers and reflect upon their own faith journeys. We will be sharing photos and student reflections in coming editions.
ANZAC Day Liturgy
Students participated in our ANZAC Day liturgy last Friday, reflecting upon the sacrifice and legacy of our war heroes.

Muzza was the runner up in Series 3 of 'Alone' and was fascinating speaker for Year 9 students.
This term in Year 9 English, we are studying the SBS series ‘Alone’ Australia, a reality television series where contestants are dropped into a remote wilderness and must survive completely on their own for as long as possible using limited supplies.
On Friday 24 March the Year 9s participated in an English incursion with a guest speaker, Murray ‘Muzza’ James, who was the runner up in Series 3, and the oldest contestant to ever appear on the show.
Throughout the presentation, Muzza gave some behind-the-scenes information, and described both the physical and mental challenges he faced. This is the second year in a row that Muzza has presented to our Year 9 cohort, and we are extremely grateful to him and his wife Bron, who also assisted in the presentation, for giving up their time for us.
‘During the interview, I learned that Muzza is a nice, laid-back guy who is a dedicated family man and considers himself a true "bushman”. He was incredibly well prepared for his time on ’Alone’. Even though he could have easily become bored or discouraged, he stayed mentally tough and pushed through the challenge. It was interesting to hear him explain the tools he used and the structures he built. One of his smartest moves was using his tent to catch rainwater so he always had enough to drink. He also built a smoker, which was a clever way to both cook his food and keep his clothes warm and dry.’ (Lochlann)
"Muzza inspired me to be always happy and grateful for my situation. I value his persistence, mentality and determination." (Tom)
"I thought today was very interesting; I learned a lot more about what he went through than in the show, and about gut feelings. I also learned about why he took what did and how keeping track of time was important. It was very inspirational to hear what he went through." (Victoria)
"Muzza’s talk was a great insight into the show ‘Alone’. It was very interesting hearing about his mental and physical challenges throughout filming the show and how he overcame them. I enjoyed hearing about what he decided to bring with him and why he chose them." (Lila)

"La Trobe Infinity Awards Day was an excellent opportunity to discover more about uni life."
La Trobe University Bendigo campus recently welcomed La Trobe Infinity Award–winning secondary school students from across the region for a special celebration, recognising their achievements and introducing them to life at university. Catherine McAuley College Bendigo students Chloe Vincent, Jack Oldham and Tobias Sexton attended the day.
During their visit, our students connected with peers from other schools across the region, enjoying a guided campus tour and hearing from current La Trobe students about their own university journeys.
Alison Lasek, Projects, Partnerships and Communications Officer at La Trobe said, “It was a vibrant and uplifting day on campus, celebrating student achievement and the potential of the next generation.”
For our students, this was a valuable day which included practical tips for success after school, and opening possibilities for their futures post-school.
“As a Year 12 student, I’ve had to start thinking about what university I want to study at in the future, and La Trobe Infinity Awards Day was an excellent opportunity to discover more about uni life. We were taken on tours around the facilities, had opportunities to speak with current students about their first-hand experience at La Trobe and we were given study tips for our Year 12 journey. This was very valuable information and encouraged me to apply for the La Trobe Aspire (Early Entry) Program later that week. La Trobe Bendigo is such a great learning institution, and attending this day has motivated me to continue studying hard this year so I can start further education at La Trobe University.” (Chloe Vincent)
“My day at La Trobe was more beneficial than I expected it to be. Coming into the day, I had little to no idea of how uni worked and how it compared to Year 12. It was great to find out both the similarities and differences between the two. Hearing from current students got me thinking about what I wanted to do post-school and hopefully got me closer to deciding what I want to do next year.” (Jack Oldham)
Attending the La Trobe Infinity Awards day provided a valuable insight into university life and offered useful information regarding excelling in Year 12 and achieving your desired results. While on campus, we toured through the various facilities offered by La Trobe, such as on-campus accommodation and services like the library, and were able to observe what life was like for the students. Beyond the tour, the information surrounding early entry programs and academic success was both motivating and informative for the year ahead. (Tobias Sexton)
VCE students have developed creative sunglasses prototypes.
Students in Unit 1 Product Design Technologies – Wood and Textiles have recently completed an exciting mini design task.
Their brief was to create a functional and innovative range of sunglasses designed either for a specific event or a targeted end‑user group. Using our Double Diamond Design Process, students:
These impressive pieces have been on display in the St Mary’s Arts Building. Students enjoyed taking a moment to visit the display and celebrate the creativity of their peers.
Congratulations to Mr Tyzzer, Mr Everton and Mr Hughes for their guidance and support throughout the project.
Classes will now shift their focus to new projects within their specialisations of Wood and Textiles, where they will continue applying and extending their design skills. We look forward to sharing more of their work as it develops throughout this semester.
From illustration to ceramic pieces in Year 9 Creative Product Design
Year 9 Creative Product Design students explored drawing natural objects, such as seed pods and small organic items. Media exploration, proportion, and tones were the focus.
The task then moved into ceramics where form was explored and making the object in clay. To present their clay forms a ‘cabinet of curiosities’ was made to house the clay pieces and other natural forms.

Electrifying experiments in Science! (Gallery)
Students in Year 8 STEAM have just completed a unit on Electricity. They have explored both static and current electricity through hands-on activities such as using the Van Der Graaf machine (pictured) and building electric circuits.
This term, they will begin studying a Biology unit on Cells and Body systems.
And the winning poem is...
We are delighted to announce Harriet Schuster as the winner of our World Poetry Day poetry competition. This year’s theme was Poetry as a Bridge for Peace and Inclusion. Honourable Mentions also went to William Tinney, Matisse Goldsworthy and Angus Villela. Below is Harriet’s Poem.
Many seem to question the meaning of harmony.
Some think that it means the beautiful sound of music in artistry.
Others have their mind wrapped around the prospect of a parallel story.
Although, for such a peculiar way of thinking, whoever uses it shall have glory.
However, the way I am thinking has neither paper, nor a piano.
It is the wonderful sound of parallel thinking and talking that is as fine as oregano.
Just like oregano, it is hard to find it in such a large bed of a garden,
Like our world population that doesn’t know how to function.
It is hard, you know,
To find kind friends with which to share the row.
But we can find harmony in the darkest of times,
Even if it is just one person, with which it's fun to eat limes.
We cannot find harmony if we are all throwing bombs and all that.
Instead, cuddle up with a friend and a cat.
120,000 people within our communities have enjoyed training and playing at the MJSP facilities.
Since opening in September 2023, the Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct (MJSP) had its 2,000th booking during the first week of April. With bookings also accepted after hours by the Council for use of the Quinn, O’Keefe, Howard and Canty Ovals and the outside netball courts, the booking numbers will reach 3,000 during May.
Together with the bookings taken to date, since opening, there have been 120,000 people within our communities enjoying training and playing inside and outside at the Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct.
Instead of local athletes needing to travel to Melbourne, we have been able to accommodate and host local sportspeople in their hometown with trials for representative teams and academies. In recent months district/sub district cricket clubs, such as Greenvale, Carlton and Brunswick completed training sessions or selection trials at the MJSP rather than in Melbourne. The Bendigo Academy of Sport is now conducting its netball academy at the MJSP to join the growing list of organisations using the College facilities.
65 clubs or organisations have used the MJSP, highlighting the contribution of the College's infrastructure to health and well-being in the local community. Our own students also use these facilities every day for PE classes, while the College Sports Development Program already has football and netball and is adding basketball in the future.
During April, the MJSP hosted its first State League Netball match between the Bendigo Strikers and Southern Saints. Further matches will be played on 28 June and 12 July. Contact the Bendigo Strikers for tickets.
If your club or organisation is interested in using the MJSP, please contact the MJSP Manager, Mr Craig Green at cgreen@cmcb.vic.edu.au.

Intermediate Girls and Boys had a fantastic day of competition.
SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA - SANDHURST DIVISION
Intermediate Girls
The Intermediate Girls soccer team had a fantastic day of competition, showing great teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship across all four games. From the first whistle, the girls set a positive tone, supporting one another and playing with confidence and intent.
CMCB started strongly in Game 1, defeating Crusoe College 4 - 0. Chloe Hassett led strongly in defence, while Zara Mould found the back of the net with four goals. Sophie Douglass provided excellent attacking options and movement up the field.
Game 2 against Victory Christian College was a hard-fought draw. Emily Doherty showed composure with strong ball skills under pressure, Kelly Ginnivan was reliable in defence, and Lyra Damchef used her body well to control play.
In Game 3, CMCB secured a 2 - 0 win over Weeroona College. Bronte Ellerton was a standout, covering the ground and impacting in both attack and defence, while Scarlett Wagstaff worked tirelessly through the midfield. Ruby Goggin also impressed up forward with her work rate. Zara Mould and Bronte Ellerton scored a goal each to lead CMCB to victory.
Game 4 was a tight contest, with CMCB edging out Bendigo South East College 1- 0. Ruby Ritchie was solid in defence, reading the play well, while Zalie Seamer showed determination and team-first play. Sophie Healy was strong on the wing and in defence, and Kasia Angove applied great defensive pressure throughout. Scarlett Wagstaff scored the game’s only goal in the first half to secure the win.
Overall, the Intermediate Girls finished the day undefeated and now progress to the Loddon Mallee Regionals Finals Day, which is an excellent achievement.
A big thank you to Rose McSweeney for assisting in managing the team and supporting the girls throughout the day. We look forward to the next day of competition later in May.

The CMCB Swimming Team had a terrific day of competition and recorded some fantastic results.
SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA
On Thursday 23 April, the CMCB Swim Team competed at the SSV State Swimming Championships at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. With 14 students qualifying for these State Championships, a busy program awaited. All team members were keen to compete against the best in the State, as they focused on their events, as well as supporting each other. CMCB swimmers were entered in 23 events, and throughout the day, there were many highlights and some terrific results recorded.
STATE CHAMPION
Zarah Reynolds capped off her CMCB swimming year with a fantastic meet. For the second year running, she claimed the title of individual State Champion, winning gold in the 17-Year Girls 50m Freestyle. She then went on to finish 2nd (State Runner-up) in the 50m Butterfly and then 3rd in the 50m Backstroke. It was a brilliant day for Zarah, despite her discomfort with an infected eye.
STATE CHAMPIONS
Our 17-20 Year Girls Medley Relay team delivered a fantastic performance. Zarah Reynolds gave the team a flying start with a quality backstroke, leg touching the wall first in the first leg. Mila Abley then increased the lead with a stellar breaststroke leg to establish a commanding gap between herself and the next competitor. A seamless changeover to Holly Hembrow, who then went on to swim an exemplary butterfly leg to extend and consolidate a now race-winning lead. Ella Tyrrell then powered home in the freestyle leg to secure the win for the team, as well as record a SSV State Record of 2.08.70. Congratulations girls, on becoming State Champions in emphatic style!
Our 17 Year Girls 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay Team also blitzed the field in their relay, on their way to another SSV Record. With Holly Hembrow leading the team out brilliantly, the gap grew through every leg of the race. Hollie Watson was smooth as silk as she built the lead. Audrey Hogan continued the brilliant effort as she gave Zarah Reynolds a commanding lead for her to finish the race in style. The girls not only set a record, but they also finished over 10 metres ahead of their nearest competitor. It was an incredible race, and the girls should be so very proud of this result.
STATE RUNNER-UP
Mila Abley swam beautifully all day to secure a podium finish in the 15 Year Girls 50m Breaststroke. Her time of 35.98 earned her second place and the title of State Runner Up. She also raced impressively in the Open age 100m Breaststroke event to finish 3rd, swimming against competitors much older than her.

On Wednesday 22 April, on a beautiful sunny day, the Intermediate Girls competed in the Sandhurst netball tournament.
Intermediate Girls A
With a talented squad assembled, our A team were keen to take to the court in Round 1. However, this match never eventuated as the opposition withdrew late on the day. Therefore, with just three pool rounds remaining, the girls were keen to make sure that their time on court counted. Despite some strong opposition, the girls dominated all three rounds, winning convincingly, as they applied incredible pressure all over the court and capitalised on scoring opportunities.
All ten girls contributed evenly throughout the day, playing in multiple positions and showing the team’s diversity. The girls qualified for the finals as the top team from Pool A and came up against Crusoe College in the semi-final. The girls once again dominated as they went on to record another strong win 14-3. This win saw them qualify for the Grand Final, where they faced Victory Christian College, who were also undefeated.
The girls started strongly, as they linked up brilliantly going into attack, but also defended relentlessly to effect turnovers all over the court. The unwavering pressure and cohesive teamwork were amazing to watch, and ultimately the difference between the two teams. The girls’ determination was clearly evident, and they never let their opposition have any easy passages to goal. The girls were simply brilliant as they went on to win the Grand Final 19-3.

Intermediate Girls B
Our Team B also had a great day, as they initially played four pool games. Game 1 was a tough first match as they took on the strong team from Crusoe College. This game was tight and despite the girls pressing hard in the last couple of minutes, they went down 14-9.
The team's next two games against Eaglehawk Secondary College and Castlemaine Secondary College saw the girls secure impressive and dominant wins. In these two games, the team produced some terrific passages of play, as they found their composure on court and worked exceptionally well together to outplay their opposition from start to finish.
It was a great boost to their confidence as they headed into their last pool game. This final game against Victory College was a must-win match if they were to secure a semi-final spot. The girls started well, as they matched Victory for intensity and pressure. However, as the match played out, Victory slowly started to establish a lead. The girls continued to be fierce with their effort and never gave up, but in the end, they went down by just four goals,12-8.
With 2 wins and 2 losses on the board, the girls then played in a consolation final against Marist College. The girls didn’t let the previous game dictate their day and played a brilliant match where they recorded a terrific win, to finish the day in fifth position. It was a fantastic effort by this team, who never gave up.
Thank you so much to our umpires Sienna Barnett and Paige Kristiansen, and to our scorers Molly Doherty and Lily McKee, for their support throughout the day. Thanks also to Ms Speed and Ms Pearce for all the hard work behind the scenes.

The Senior Girls battled some tough competition to win through the day undefeated.
SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA - SANDHURST DIVISION
Senior Girls
On Thursday 22 April, the Senior Girls participated in the Senior section of the Sandhurst Division Netball at the Golden City courts. The team looked the part in their warm-up tops sponsored by Bendigo Mortgage Brokers, and everyone was keen for a fun day of netball. In the absence of a captain, the Year 12 team members took on the leadership role for the day, running warm-ups and getting the girls excited for the day ahead.
With 11 in the playing squad for the day, the girls were excited to try new combinations and get some wins on the board. The schedule had the team playing four games across the day, with each game consisting of 2 x 7-minute halves.
The results were as follows:
Game 1 CMCB vs Castlemaine Secondary College (18-4 win)
This game saw all 11 players on court, utilising breaks and rolling subs. The team got away to a flying start in the first half, with accurate goaling and brilliant defence. The goalers worked well in all combinations, the centre court moved the ball beautifully, and the defenders were exceptional at forcing turnovers and rebounding to starve the opposition of second chances. A complete team performance was a fantastic start to the day.
Game 2 CMCB vs Bendigo Senior Secondary College (11-9 win)
This was a game that the girls really needed to dig deep for - the pressure was felt all over the court (and off!). BSSC began well and had the girls needing to settle and find their flow, but despite their best efforts, BSSC took full advantage and skipped away to a 4-goal lead at half-time. After a brief chat and some positional changes at the half-time break, the girls were keen to make amends for their scatty start.
The second half was once again hard going, with feeds into the ring being met with physical opposition, but despite this, the girls didn’t relent. The centre court combination battled hard, and our defenders had to work overtime to turn the ball over and capitalise. What resulted was some amazing defensive intercepts, which gave the team repeated scoring opportunities and at the same time limited the chances for BSSC’s goalers. What was a deficit was soon whittled away, and a 5-minute blitz saw the girls turn the game around and come out in front by 2 goals at the final whistle.
Game 3 CMCB vs Marist College Bendigo (13-7 win)
This was a scrappy game, and the girls found it hard to find any sort of rhythm. In the attack, the goalers were being met with lots of body contact, but they kept their composure and never gave up. As the game progressed, team cohesion grew as all players displayed incredible resilience and determination to pull away and record a fantastic 6-goal win against a strong opposition.
Game 4 CMCB vs SEDA (16-2 win)
The last game for the day saw the girls up against SEDA. With different combinations on court once again, the girls still combined well. Rotations continued throughout the game, allowing everyone a chance to get some quality court time. The accuracy of the goalers, the hard work ethic of the centre court combinations and the ability of our defenders to intercept saw the girls come away with a comfortable win.
Everyone in the team represented the College so well – teamwork, enjoyment for the game and the privilege of playing on such a beautiful day were all highlights. Our goaling, defending, passing, court movement and disciplined and patient play were to be commended as well as the leadership skills that were on display. Congratulations, team, and good luck at the next competition day.
