Year 10 River Detectives

Students gained valuable hands-on experience and a deeper appreciation for local waterways and environmental stewardship.

Today, our Year 10 Environmental Science students took part in a fieldwork excursion to Bendigo Creek as part of the River Detectives program. Throughout the term, students have been analysing water samples, carefully monitoring key indicators such as pH, phosphorous levels, salinity, and turbidity.

Prior learning in class gave students insight into the historical impacts of gold mining on the creek. At the creek, students deepened their understanding by observing conditions firsthand and applying their fieldwork skills in a practical setting. They were also able to see the important restoration efforts currently underway.

With sunny weather and great enthusiasm, students thoroughly enjoyed the day, gaining valuable hands-on experience and a deeper appreciation for local waterways and environmental stewardship.
