Fabulous voices, big hair and colourful costumes, lighting and sets wow production audiences.
The Rock of Ages production was a credit to all involved. We now move into Senior Exam week, as we enter the final two weeks of term.
Next week is senior exam week, marking the completion of SACs, revision and practice exams. This represents considerable time, energy, and commitment from both staff and students.
On Tuesday, all students enrolled in one or more VCE or scored VCE VET Units 3 and 4 sequence will undertake the General Achievement Test (GAT) at St Mary’s. The GAT is a pen-and-paper test assessing general knowledge and skills, taken by students during their senior secondary studies.
Senior Learning Pathways
The subject selection process, commencing on Tuesday 23 June with Subject Selection Evening and continuing in Term 3, is an important part of the CMCB educational journey, guiding and supporting students towards future learning pathways and career opportunities. The College steps students through the process of selecting subjects that align with their interests, strengths and goals. (Read More)
Arts on Show

Fabulous voices, big hair and colourful costumes, lighting and sets wow production audiences.
The annual CMCB production was held last week at the stunning Ulumbarra Theatre.
Nearly 120 students were involved, both onstage acting and behind the scenes, bringing together the fun show that was ‘Rock of Ages’. We performed three times over two days, including a matinee performance for our Catholic primary schools’ Grade 5 and 6 students and invited guests.
The students began the whole process with auditions last year in Term 4 and committed themselves throughout the rehearsals in Terms 1 and 2 this year, culminating in a fantastic 2-hour long show. The incredible 80s songs featured throughout were audience favourites, often engaging people in singing along to the well-known choruses from the time.
The big hair and colourful costumes, lighting and sets all contributed to a high-energy presentation from our students. There was a great sense of achievement and lots of emotion from our students at the end of each show, with many firm friendships formed and a real appreciation for the talent on show.
Sincere thanks must go to all staff, families and students who came along to the performances, and also for their support and contributions to such a wonderful event. Our students had an incredible time and also learned so much about the theatre and production/performance process. We are looking forward to what next year will bring.

"All in" for Reconciliation 2026
Rock Painting at Coolock on final day of National Reconciliation Week
Wednesday marked the conclusion of National Reconciliation Week, with “All in” as the theme. A rock painting activity was available to students at lunchtime in the library.
The rocks were painted by many students with symbols of First Nations art. The rocks will be spread throughout the garden around our yarning circle, at the MJSP end of the Sister Aloysius Martyn Arts Centre.
All in for Reconciliation
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.
The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long. Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.
As we head into the final weeks of term, we encourage all Year 7 students to stay focused and finish strongly. This is a valuable time to complete assessment tasks with care and pride, showing the effort and growth developed across the term. While it can be easy to lose momentum, maintaining steady habits - staying organised, meeting deadlines, and staying engaged in class - will ensure a positive and rewarding finish. Consistency now will set students up well for the next semester ahead.
We also remind students of the importance of presenting themselves well each day by wearing their school uniform correctly. As the weather becomes colder, it is important that students come prepared with their blazers, as per our College uniform policy, and ensure they are warm by wearing appropriate uniform items such as their school jumper or scarf.
Thank you to our parents and caregivers for your continued partnership and support. Your encouragement at home makes a meaningful difference as students navigate this busy time, and we greatly value working together to support their success.
Learning Focus: Religious Education
The Caring for Creation unit in Year 7 Religious Education focuses on the revelation of God through all of creation. In it, students explore how God’s creative act invites us to shape our lives, relationships and world by reaching out and actively responding to the call to be co-creators. Students explore the different religious and non-religious views on how the world was created. A connection to Aboriginal Spirituality is intertwined within the unit as students explore the Indigenous connection to land and draw connections to the Christian view of stewardship.
As a part of this unit, students created a stained-glass window inspired by St Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of Creation.

Learning Focus: French
Parker Gollan is an extremely talented artist. Last week she proudly presented the sketches she produced for her French class.

Production
We want to congratulate all of the students and staff who participated in bringing an exceptional experience to the Bendigo community with their production of the musical ‘Rock of Ages’. It has been a fantastic experience for all and thanks must also go to the parents and carers who give their time and support to enable the event to go ahead.
The staff leaders who give up so much time to ensure this also occurs must also be acknowledged. There is a gallery photos to enjoy in this newsletter.

Our Year 9 Student Leadership Team
Our Year 9 Student Leaders have been hard at work!
At the beginning of this term the Year 9 Year Level Coordinators met with the Year 9 Student Leaders and set them some challenges. One of these was to attend a weekly leadership meeting, held on a Wednesday during Mercy Homegroup, during which they would plan the upcoming year level assembly, with two leaders presenting this information at our Friday assembly. The second challenge was to talk to their classmates and fellow leaders and come up with ideas that would help engage their peers during lunch breaks. The leaders would then plan, promote and implement a weekly event. In the last two weeks our leaders have run a basketball shootout and Kahoot trivia competition, which saw a number of Year 9 students participate as seen in the accompanying photos. Two of our leaders have also provided a reflection on what it has been like to be a Year 9 student leader during the first semester of this year.
Leadership in Year 9 2026 has been a blast! I was also in the leadership team last year, but this year I feel more connected to the leaders, and I feel more involved in the SRC. I feel like I have learnt a heap about being a leader and being a proud leader. Leadership has really shown me how to step out of my comfort zone and take action. In leadership you have heaps of freedom to set up activities and basically run events for the year level. Leadership has been so awesome and wonderful this year, especially with the team that I work with! (Grace Wyatt)
Being a student leader isn’t as stressful as I thought it would be. The rest of the team are all kind and easy-going, so meetings and events are fun. At first, I struggled with public speaking and sharing my ideas, but I’ve eased into it a lot more now. (Arianna Gibson)
As staff who guide and work closely with the Year 9 student leaders, we could not be prouder of what they have achieved so far, both individually and as a team, and we look forward to supporting them on their leadership journey throughout the remainder of the year.
Mr Stephen Evans, Mrs Josephine Tobin and Mr Dean Carmody, Year 9 Leadership Team
Throughout Term 2, our Year 12 students enrolled in Living Mercy have participated in a series of Class Masses, providing meaningful opportunities for prayer, reflection and celebration.
Throughout Term 2, our Year 12 students enrolled in Living Mercy have been privileged to participate in a series of Class Masses, providing meaningful opportunities for prayer, reflection, and celebration of our shared faith. These gatherings have offered students a chance to pause amidst the busyness of their final year and reconnect with the Mercy values that underpin our school community.
Each Mass has been a special occasion, thoughtfully prepared by staff and students who contributed through readings, prayers, and music. Their reverence and active involvement have helped create a prayerful atmosphere. These moments together have encouraged students to reflect on their personal journeys, their responsibilities as leaders within the school, and their hopes as they prepare for life beyond school.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Father Brian, Father Jackson, and Father Junray, who generously gave their time throughout the term to celebrate these liturgies with us.
The Year 12 Living Mercy Class Masses have been a beautiful reminder of the importance of nurturing faith, building community, and taking time for reflection. We thank all involved for making these celebrations such a significant part of Term 2.

Over the past two weeks, the library has been focussing on what Reconciliation Week means to us and this year’s theme “All In”.
To celebrate and share our rich First Nations culture, students have been reading First Nations picture books aloud in small groups.
Our wool corner is in full swing with students across all year levels knitting, crocheting and finger knitting. It has been fabulous to see our students learning new skills and sharing these with others. It will continue until the end of term.
We have had overwhelming positive responses to our student library survey. Students are proud of our school library and particularly enjoy our library environment and diverse collections. Many suggestions from students have been actioned already, such as new displays, signage and acquisitions. Other ideas will be implemented over time. Thank you from the Library Team to all who participated.

Enjoy this gallery of varied wax crayon, watercolour and ink wash artworks.
Year 7 Art classes have explored the notion that art can tell a story.
After working though warm up activities and ways to approach drawing three dimensional objects, students drew on large scale paper (A2). They needed to draw their own hand holding an object that represented them on some way.
Media: wax crayon, watercolour paints, ink wash.
Students gained valuable hands-on experience and a deeper appreciation for local waterways and environmental stewardship.
Today, our Year 10 Environmental Science students took part in a fieldwork excursion to Bendigo Creek as part of the River Detectives program. Throughout the term, students have been analysing water samples, carefully monitoring key indicators such as pH, phosphorous levels, salinity, and turbidity.
Prior learning in class gave students insight into the historical impacts of gold mining on the creek. At the creek, students deepened their understanding by observing conditions firsthand and applying their fieldwork skills in a practical setting. They were also able to see the important restoration efforts currently underway.
With sunny weather and great enthusiasm, students thoroughly enjoyed the day, gaining valuable hands-on experience and a deeper appreciation for local waterways and environmental stewardship.

The senior boys faced a strong opponent in Rowville SC for Round 3.
SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA - PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL
On Tuesday 26 May, the Premier League Team travelled to Scoresby Recreation Reserve to take on Rowville in their crucial Round 3 clash. Facing a strong opponent who had already secured two wins, the boys were determined not only to come away with a victory, but also to keep their Semi Final hopes alive.
Upon arrival, the team embraced the conditions, with a strong westerly wind set to play a key role. Winning the toss, Ben Miller elected to kick with the wind advantage, and the boys made an immediate impact on the scoreboard. From the opening centre clearance, the game plan of “kick it long to Seamus” paid off, as he took a strong contested mark and calmly slotted the first goal within the opening two minutes.
Rowville responded quickly, showcasing their speed and ball movement to kick two consecutive goals, however to the boy’s credit, they remained composed, began to slowly adapt to the conditions, and again used the wind effectively. Seamus continued his strong marking presence and kicked his second goal midway through the term. Unfortunately, just before quarter time, the game was halted following a heavy landing in a marking contest that resulted in a serious leg injury to Seamus. Play was suspended for an extended period while medical assistance arrived. It was a challenging moment for all involved, but the team showed great resilience and composure as the situation was managed. Following discussions between the coaching staff, the match resumed in a slightly shortened format, with both teams eager to continue competing.
The second quarter saw Rowville take advantage of the breeze and control much of the play. While their scoring efficiency kept the contest within reach, their pressure and intensity made it difficult for the boys to build any sort of momentum, as they continually suffocated all CMC’s scoring opportunities. At halftime, the game was still in the balance as Rowville held a narrow 11-point lead, 3.7 (25) to 2.2 (14).
The third quarter was a hard-fought slog, with both sides battling fiercely. The CMCB boys showed great determination, working tirelessly to gain territory, but Rowville’s defensive structure proved difficult to break down. Max Connick provided a fantastic highlight, taking a strong mark and converting the goal to keep the team within striking distance heading into the final term.
In the last quarter, the boys once again dug in. Led by Archie Stevens and Ben Miller the boys attacked every contest with energy, grunt and intent. Despite a few near misses, including an early behind, the boys continued to apply pressure all over the ground, but Rowville had once again set up their defensive roadblock that proved difficult to penetrate. Rowville then broke out of defence and transitioned the ball swiftly where they were able to extend their lead midway through the quarter. The goal gave them a 3-goal lead, but the effort of the CMCB crew never wavered. A bright moment came when Charlie Dickins took an excellent mark inside 50 and kicked his first goal in Senior Football - a fantastic achievement and a sign of things to come.
When the final siren sounded, the result hadn’t gone the boy’s way, however the team displayed incredible courage, resilience, and a willingness to compete despite the incident earlier in the match.
A loss may have been the result, and the year may be over for this team, but most importantly, the thoughts of everyone are with Seamus, and we wish him a smooth and speedy recovery.
Final Score CMCB: 4-5-29 lost to Rowville 5-12-42

The Senior Girls and Boys Basketball teams take five from five!
SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA - SANDHURST DIVISION
On Friday 22 May our Senior Boys and Girls Basketball Teams competed in the Sandhurst Division Basketball Competition at Red Energy Arena. With both teams keen for success, they arrived with enthusiasm and keen for the day ahead.
SENIOR GIRLS
The Senior Girls team arrived at the courts with just five players as a compulsory subject excursion robbed them of key players, however the girls still believed that they had a strong contingent and believed that they had the talent to get the wins required to achieve success on the day.
Game 1 saw the girls take on Marist College Bendigo. The match started evenly, however with continued pressure and confident forward passages of play the girls slowly established a lead. Everyone was contributing at both ends of the court and as a result the girls were able to secure a strong and convincing first-up win 67 to 32.
Game 2 was against Bendigo Senior Secondary College, and the team knew that this was going to be a much tougher game. After an even start, the brilliance of Lacey Nihill became a massive highlight, as she sank a multitude of 3-point bombs, one after another, to give the team a great lead. With full court pressure and the skill of Lexie Fennell directing play, the trio of Jemma Thomas, Dempsey McDonnell and Lyndal Bannan were all able to make solid and valuable contributions, both on the score board and in the defensive half. A brilliant win resulted, by a team that was fully committed to working together, giving it their all and achieving success.
Thanks to Mr Andronicos and Ms Dowling for coaching and managing the team on the day.
Special thanks also to Mia Cox and Sophie McDermott who scored for both Teams on the day. Their assistance was invaluable and appreciated.

SENIOR BOYS
Three games stood between the Senior Boys Basketball team and the shield for the SSV Sandhurst Division.
In the first game against Marist College Bendigo, the team was eager to start strong and purposefully. History told us the game could be a challenge if we didn’t start well, so the squad kicked it into gear and gained the upper hand early. Whether from the arc or on the drive, the whole team found their way to the basket to score and started the day with a fantastic win, 60 to 42.
Game two was against SEDA, and with some quick rotations off the bench, the team once again jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Scoring came from all areas, as the boys were able to share the points around, finishing with another convincing win.
Game three was the game of the day, coming up against Bendigo Senior Secondary College, who were also undefeated. With a tough opposition waiting the team came together before the start of the match, discussed what was required from one another during the game, and sought to put plans into action straight away. Impressive shooting from outside the 3-point arc was paying dividends and consistent and supported pressure on the defensive end was forcing errors. At the half, the boys had a good lead, but knew the game wasn’t done. BSSC came out hard in the second half and started to bridge the gap. Composure however held for the CMCB team, and they continued to score, rebound and defend, right till the end, taking the win 46 -37. The victory sealed the result for the team, taking the Sandhurst shield and also qualifying for the Loddon Mallee Regional Finals which are to be played in Echuca on Friday 24 May.

SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA - SANDHURST DIVISION
The Year 9/10 football team had a strong showing at the Sandhurst Division Intermediate Boys Football Day, finishing the day undefeated and earning a place in the Loddon Mallee Region Finals to be played in Swan Hill on Wednesday 29 July.
Game 1 – CMCB vs Marist
Catherine McAuley College Bendigo (CMCB) faced a challenging start against Marist College Bendigo, who came out firing and kicked the first two goals of the match. However, the CMCB team responded well through goals from Paddy McNamara and Charlie Macumber, steadying the contest heading into halftime.
The second half saw CMCB take control, with strong ball movement and forward pressure leading to goals from Jimi Read and another from McNamara. The boys finished strongly to secure a solid 41–29 victory.
Best players: Paddy McNamara, Jamison Westley, Jimi Read
Game 2 – CMCB vs Bendigo South East College
The second match was played on the larger oval, which perfectly suited CMCB’s running and handball style of play. The team started quickly, kicking the first three goals through Oisín Dunne, Zander Walker and Knox Westley.
CMCB maintained control for the remainder of the game, with Knox Westley in outstanding form, adding another two goals in the second half. The team’s work rate and ball movement were a highlight, resulting in a convincing 40–11 win.
Best players: Knox Westley, Lon Schelfout, Miller Polglase
Game 3 – CMCB vs Victory College
Back on the smaller oval, CMCB were slow to start against Victory College and held only a narrow 1-goal lead at halftime.
The second half saw a complete turnaround, with CMCB dominating play and kicking six unanswered goals to put the result beyond doubt. Charlie Macumber led the charge with three goals, while Jimi Read, Miller Polglase, Knox Westley, and Oisín Dunne each contributed a goal.
CMCB ran out comfortable winners, finishing the day in dominant fashion.
It was an impressive performance across all three games, with contributions from a wide range of players and strong team cohesion throughout the day.
The boys are looking forward to their next challenge in Swan Hill, where they will look to continue their excellent form.

The team should be incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented CMCB throughout the day. The team now looks ahead to September, when the State Championships take place in Melbourne.
The Intermediate Girls Soccer team represented Catherine McAuley College Bendigo (CMCB) impeccably, showcasing outstanding teamwork, determination and sportsmanship at the Loddon Mallee Regional Finals Day on Thursday 28 May. The girls played with confidence and skill across both matches, whilst also enjoying the stunning weather conditions.
In the opening game against St Joseph’s College Echuca, the team delivered a dominant performance with strong attacking play coupled with solid defence across the field. Scarlett Wagstaff was in excellent form up forward, scoring three goals, while Emily Doherty also had a brilliant game, kicking three goals of her own. Bronte Ellerton then added a ripper goal from an amazing corner kick, Sophie Healy sent a cracking shot goalward to register another score, and Zara Mould capped off the scoring tally with a well-taken penalty. But it wasn’t just the goal kickers that were impressive - there were standout performances all over the field. Emily Doherty provided a constant forward option, Kasia Angove was a pivotal presence through the midfield, and Kelly Ginnivan was outstanding with her clearance work defensively. Add in the generals in the back line, Chloe Hassett and Zara Mould, who had their team working brilliantly together to deny Echuca a look at scoring. Frankie Stevens up forward created great space and contributed crucial goal assists throughout the match; the result – an impressive final score of 9-0.
The second game against St Joseph’s Mildura was a much tougher match, and the girls were pushed to their limit in a highly competitive contest. Sophie Douglass was strong in the back line, Ruby Goggin worked tirelessly making forward runs down the wing, and Chloe Hassett held a strong defensive line throughout the game. Zalie Seamer provided excellent midfield support, Lyra Damchef applied great defensive pressure, and Sophie Healy showed great running and effort on the wing. Bronte Ellerton, once again, stood tall through the midfield as she weaved her magic to score both goals for CMCB in a hard-fought performance. A 2-0 win resulted and the girls were ecstatic with their collective efforts.
The team should be incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented CMCB throughout the day. A special thank you to Rose McSweeney (Year 12), Mrs Maree Pearce and Ms Holly Speed for their assistance and support on the day. The team now looks ahead to the State Championships, which will be played in Melbourne on Tuesday 8 September.

The new platform provides endless opportunities to connect, engage, reminisce and stay informed. It will be the main way to promote upcoming events and reunions.
