Our Year 9 Student Leadership Team

Our Year 9 Student Leaders have been hard at work!

At the beginning of this term the Year 9 Year Level Coordinators met with the Year 9 Student Leaders and set them some challenges. One of these was to attend a weekly leadership meeting, held on a Wednesday during Mercy Homegroup, during which they would plan the upcoming year level assembly, with two leaders presenting this information at our Friday assembly. The second challenge was to talk to their classmates and fellow leaders and come up with ideas that would help engage their peers during lunch breaks. The leaders would then plan, promote and implement a weekly event. In the last two weeks our leaders have run a basketball shootout and Kahoot trivia competition, which saw a number of Year 9 students participate as seen in the accompanying photos. Two of our leaders have also provided a reflection on what it has been like to be a Year 9 student leader during the first semester of this year.

Leadership in Year 9 2026 has been a blast! I was also in the leadership team last year, but this year I feel more connected to the leaders, and I feel more involved in the SRC. I feel like I have learnt a heap about being a leader and being a proud leader. Leadership has really shown me how to step out of my comfort zone and take action. In leadership you have heaps of freedom to set up activities and basically run events for the year level. Leadership has been so awesome and wonderful this year, especially with the team that I work with! (Grace Wyatt)

Being a student leader isn’t as stressful as I thought it would be. The rest of the team are all kind and easy-going, so meetings and events are fun. At first, I struggled with public speaking and sharing my ideas, but I’ve eased into it a lot more now. (Arianna Gibson)

As staff who guide and work closely with the Year 9 student leaders, we could not be prouder of what they have achieved so far, both individually and as a team, and we look forward to supporting them on their leadership journey throughout the remainder of the year.
