Although it doesn’t seem as though winter has truly arrived, we have just passed the shortest day of the year and can now look forward to gradually lengthening days. In the same way, the end of Term 2 marks the turning point in the academic year, as exams are marked, reports prepared, and students and staff alike look forward to two weeks of rest from the school routine.
Looking ahead to 2027, an important event for our senior students took place this week: the Subject Selection Evening at St Mary’s. This vital evening helps equip students and their families with the information they need to make decisions about their educational and career pathways. Current Year 9s preparing for Year 10 in 2027 are included in this planning as they reap the benefits of their Year 7 to Year 12 academic and social journey at Catherine McAuley College Bendigo. Also this week, we farewelled our 16 Year 9 students and two staff members who departed for their Kakadu Immersion. In a wonderful opportunity to deepen their understanding and experiences beyond the classroom, they will join a local indigenous community for a cultural immersion program to learn about the local people and ancient culture. We wish them safe travels and a memorable, rewarding experience in Kakadu National Park.
Meanwhile, Year 11 students are preparing for their cultural immersion experience in Cambodia at the end of next term by fundraising in preparation for their participation in a local community project. While in Cambodia, students will deepen their understanding of global justice and compassion while experiencing cultural exchange and adventure. Congratulations to the recent winner of a $1,000 Visa Card in the Cambodia Immersion raffle, and look out for other opportunities to contribute to their fundraising efforts.
Thank you to our students, families and staff for your continued support and contributions to another successful term and best wishes for a safe and restful break. In particular, we encourage Year 12 students to take the opportunity to recharge their batteries for the final leg of their school journey.
We will commence Term 3 with a Staff Professional Learning Day and welcome students back on Tuesday 14 July.
