Time for a well-earned break after a busy and successful term.
Although it doesn’t seem as though winter has truly arrived, we have just passed the shortest day of the year and can now look forward to gradually lengthening days. In the same way, the end of Term 2 marks the turning point in the academic year, as exams are marked, reports prepared, and students and staff alike look forward to two weeks of rest from the school routine.
Looking ahead to 2027, an important event for our senior students took place this week: the Subject Selection Evening at St Mary’s. This vital evening helps equip students and their families with the information they need to make decisions about their educational and career pathways. Current Year 9s preparing for Year 10 in 2027 are included in this planning as they reap the benefits of their Year 7 to Year 12 academic and social journey at Catherine McAuley College Bendigo. Also this week, we farewelled our 16 Year 9 students and two staff members who departed for their Kakadu Immersion. In a wonderful opportunity to deepen their understanding and experiences beyond the classroom, they will join a local indigenous community for a cultural immersion program to learn about the local people and ancient culture. We wish them safe travels and a memorable, rewarding experience in Kakadu National Park.
Meanwhile, Year 11 students are preparing for their cultural immersion experience in Cambodia at the end of next term by fundraising in preparation for their participation in a local community project. While in Cambodia, students will deepen their understanding of global justice and compassion while experiencing cultural exchange and adventure. Congratulations to the recent winner of a $1,000 Visa Card in the Cambodia Immersion raffle, and look out for other opportunities to contribute to their fundraising efforts.
Thank you to our students, families and staff for your continued support and contributions to another successful term and best wishes for a safe and restful break. In particular, we encourage Year 12 students to take the opportunity to recharge their batteries for the final leg of their school journey.
We will commence Term 3 with a Staff Professional Learning Day and welcome students back on Tuesday 14 July.
On Tuesday 23 June 2026, families and students from Years 9–11 attended 2027 Subject Selection Evening
On Tuesday evening 23 June 2026, families and students from Years 9–11 attended the 2027 Subject Selection Evening. The evening provided valuable opportunities for students to explore subject options, speak directly with teachers and gain clarity about future academic pathways.
The Marian Gym at St Mary’s was transformed into a vibrant hub of subject stalls, where teachers showcased their subjects and answered questions. Students and parents/carers were able to gain valuable insight into curriculum content, expectations and potential career pathways associated with each subject. The interactive format allowed for personalised conversations, helping students make informed choices aligned with their interests and strengths.
Complementing the stalls, a series of information sessions in the Marian Theatre provided a broader overview of the subject selection process. These sessions offered guidance on course requirements, VCE pathways, prerequisites and considerations for future study or employment. Presentations also highlighted the importance of thoughtful decision-making, encouraging students to balance passion, ability and long-term goals when selecting their subjects.
Staff were on hand throughout the evening to offer advice and answer questions, ensuring families felt supported in navigating what can often be a complex process. The collaborative atmosphere between staff, students and families made for a welcoming and productive experience.
The evening was a great success, equipping students with the knowledge and confidence needed to take the next step in their educational journey. The College looks forward to supporting students through the remainder of the subject selection process for 2027.
Commitment to caring for others and our common home.
The St Mary’s Seeds of Justice group recently hosted a vibrant and meaningful Clothes Swap, bringing our school community together in the spirit of generosity and sustainability.
Students donated a range of quality clothing items, demonstrating their commitment to caring for others and our common home. Many students enjoyed the opportunity to “shop” for new pieces, refreshing their wardrobe in a sustainable way.
The remaining clothing was thoughtfully collected and donated to Vinnies, extending the impact of the initiative to support those in need in our wider community.
The health day was wonderful for learning about job opportunities in the medical industry. (Violet)
On Wednesday 10 June, fifteen students from Years 7 and 8 participated in the Exploring Health Careers Immersion Day at Bendigo Tech School.
The day offered an exciting, hands-on introduction to the many pathways within the health industry. Students rotated through a series of interactive experiences that brought real-world health careers to life, from patient care and medical technology to allied health and emerging innovations.
Many thanks to Mrs Julie Fennell for accompanying the students on the day.
The La Trobe staff organised various activities for the students so they can at least learn the first few basics on what to do if someone’s life is in danger. (Pawhtee Ler)

We learnt how to do CPR, take blood pressure, find a heart rate, and more. We also took a tour of the health building and saw how some paramedics train. (Hannah)
I am proud that the College values staff spiritual formation, and I am inspired to take my learnings into my personal and professional life.
I was extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity to participate in a silent retreat at Santa Casa, Queenscliff from from 15 – 17 June.
We explored the notion that silence and solitude increase our availability to God. We learnt how to listen to the parts of ourselves that are not oriented to ideas or words.
The days were structured around silent meal times and personal reflection, and structured gatherings where we could talk (!) and reflected upon scripture and the insights, reflections and noticings that arose throughout our periods of contemplation.
This experience has been profound. I am proud that the College values staff spiritual formation, and I am inspired to take my learnings into my personal and professional life. The experience has taught me that when we slow down and engage all of our senses, we truly see the beauty and mystery of God’s creation.
“Our God is not distant or abstract…it is a presence intimately involved in our lives. By embracing a multi-sensory faith, we not only draw closer to God but also open ourselves to the abundant beauty and grace God has woven into the fabric of creation.”
Reflection- Gathering Our Scattered Senses (Taizé Service to conclude the retreat)
We gather our sight -
What we have seen, what we cannot unsee -
And ask to see again with love.
Pause
We gather our hearing -
The noise, the words, the overload -
And ask to hear what is true.
Pause
We gather our breath -
What has been held tight or rushed -
And receive the Spirit of life.
Pause
We gather our hearts -
What has been guarded, hurt, or scattered -
And rest in love that holds us.
Pause
We gather our hands -
What we cling to, what we carry -
And learn the freedom of letting go.
Pause
We are gathered in Christ -
Sight, hearing, breath, heart, and body -
Into one love.

Unit 2 Legal Studies students had another valuable opportunity to visit the Bendigo Law Courts.
Recently, our Unit 2 Legal Studies students had the valuable opportunity to visit the Bendigo Law Courts for the third time this year, continuing to build on their understanding of the Victorian legal system through real-world observation and experience.
Students attended sessions in the Magistrates’ Court, where they observed a range of proceedings. These experiences allowed students to see legal principles in action, deepening their understanding of key concepts such as judicial decision-making, the role of legal practitioners, and the factors considered during sentencing.
A highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the Koori Court. Students gained insight into the culturally significant approach the Koori Court takes in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through the justice system. The visit provided a meaningful perspective on how the legal system can operate more inclusively and in a community-focused way.
Students also had the opportunity to speak with staff from the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT). These discussions gave students a broader understanding of the range of roles within the legal system and how VCAT provides accessible, timely dispute resolution outside of traditional court settings.
We commend our students for their respectful behaviour and engagement throughout the excursion, and we thank the Bendigo Law Courts staff for their time and support in providing such a valuable learning experience.

SESQUICENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

Year 7 Boys played a competitive and hard-fought contest against BSE.
SCHOOL SPORTS VICTORIA - SANDHURST DIVISION
On Monday 22 June, the Year 7 Boys faced Bendigo South East College (BSE) in what proved to be a competitive and hard-fought contest. BSE opened the scoring early in the first half, but our team remained upbeat, and the score remained 1–0 going into halftime.
BSE extended their lead early in the second half; however, CMCB responded well and began to take control of the game. This persistence was rewarded when Antony Qadous scored an excellent goal, getting the team on the scoreboard and narrowing the margin.
The second half was CMCB’s strongest, with improved teamwork, ball movement, and attacking pressure. Unfortunately, while pushing forward to equalise, BSE capitalised on counterattacks and scored two late goals, resulting in a final score of 4-1, which did not accurately reflect how closely contested the match was.
Notable performances came from Harrison Allen and Campbell Parker, whose consistent two-way running and repeat efforts were outstanding throughout the game.
Overall, the team should be proud of their performance, particularly their resilience and improvement in the second half. The team would like to thank Jayden Kaungwa and Christian Martin for running lines on the day.

CMCB Boys Netball teams competed at the Sandhurst Division Championships, with all teams displaying impressive skill and understanding of the game.
SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA - SANDHURST DIVISION
On Thursday 11 June, the CMCB Boys Netball teams competed at the Sandhurst Division Championships, with all teams displaying impressive skill and understanding of the game. The day was highlighted with all teams playing some outstanding netball and representing the College with distinction.
Leading the charge in an impressive Year 10 team was Jake Rosa, fierce and unwavering, a warrior at the helm whose intensity set the tone for all. In the goal circle stood Charlie Dickins, draining shots with the confidence and precision of a seasoned sharpshooter. Alongside him, Charlie Macumber moved like a flash of lightning, impossible to predict and even harder to stop, striking swiftly and decisively.
Through the midcourt, the balance of power was undeniable. Carter Andrews brought composure and strength, threading passes with pinpoint accuracy, feeding the goalers as though guiding each ball through the eye of a needle. In the centre, Quin Cody was the heartbeat and tempo-setter, his positioning and endurance dictated the rhythm of every contest, much like a drummer driving a rock anthem forward. And then there was Jamison Westley, who was nothing but pure metabolic energy, boundless, electric, like a force of nature harnessed and focused for the good of the team.
Harry Morrish was the ‘whatever the moment demanded’ player, as he had the ability and agility to adapt to a position wherever needed. His reach seemed to stretch to the heavens themselves, and his ability to elevate to a height that seemingly took him to the edge of earth’s atmosphere was invaluable. And finally, behind it all in defence stood Bentley Geary, the wall, unbreakable, unwavering and relentless. Across six games, only 12 goals slipped through, a defensive masterclass of effort that was nothing short of legendary.
Beyond the playing group, standing just behind the scenes, on the other side of the white line, guiding the flow like a master tactician, was Macey Pinner. Calm, calculated, and always one step ahead, she made the moves that kept everything ticking. Her support for both the team and coach never wavered. Quite simply, a true legend and an integral part of the day’s success.
But this wasn’t about individuals. This was about unity.
Across the day, the team played six games, scoring a staggering 139 goals while conceding just 12. Yet there was no single standout, because they were all outstanding. It was a display built on trust, teamwork, and exceptional sportsmanship.
Before the day began, the message was simple: ”we drove five minutes to be here, so don’t waste the opportunity…stay positive…play as a team…play in front…and win”.
Simple, yet profound words delivered with pride and power, like something you’d hear echo through a locker room of the greats. And the boys didn’t just hear it, they lived it.
What followed was nothing short of extraordinary. A team of nine heroes, guided by a master strategist, who played not for glory alone, but for each other.
Congratulations boys.
Ms Emma Ryan, Coach

YEAR 10 BOYS: Eli Fennell, Jamison Westley, Harry Morrish, Carter Andrews, Quinlan Cody, Tayte Frawley, Ms Emma Ryan (Coach), Jake Rosa, Charlie Macumber, Charlie Dickins, Bentley Geary
The Year 9 boys had a strong start to the day, securing a solid win over Bendigo South East College 2 (10-2), with Ryan Packer leading the way through accurate and confident shooting in the goal circle. They then backed it up with another two impressive wins over East Loddon P-12 College and BSE 1, showcasing great teamwork and consistency across the court. The boys then faced a tough team in Crusoe College. This match was a tight contest as both teams went goal-for-goal for a while, until a couple of key turnovers to Crusoe saw them secure the win.
The effort of the CMCB boys however, could not be questioned - Asha O’Brien was outstanding in defence, applying constant pressure and creating crucial turnovers, while Louis Travaglia worked tirelessly through the midcourt, linking play and keeping the team moving forward.
The boys then came up against the CMCB Year 10 side, who also proved to be too strong on the day. Despite the result, captain Tadhg O’Keefe led by example, battling hard through the midcourt and never giving up. Lon Schelfhout also deserves an honourable mention for a solid and dependable performance in WD, consistently limiting his opponent’s influence. The boys then finished off the day with another terrific win against Weeroona College.
Overall, it was a great team effort and a positive day of competition for the Year 9 boys. Special thanks to Kahl McInerney for being the Team Manager on the day.
Mrs Natalie West, Coach

YEAR 9 BOYS: Mrs Natalie West (Coach), Zachariah Dove, Tadhg O’Keefe, Jimi Read, Lon Schelfhout, Angelo Cuadra, Louis Travaglia, Kahl McInerney, Miller Polglase, William Elms, Asha O’Brien, Ryan Packer
The combined Year 7 and Year 8 A Team played six games: against BSE, East Loddon, Weeroona, Crusoe, and CMCB team B.
Right from the very first pass, the boys came out firing, winning most games fairly comfortably. The biggest challenge was against the CMCB B team, with only three goals being the difference at the end of the match. The boys did a terrific job rotating through multiple positions each. Gus Pitcher was a steady presence up either end, Jesse Cox and Jensen Sawyer were consistent in goals all day, Hamish Baker, Josh Prowse, and Darby Lamb did some amazing attacking and defensive work through the midcourt, and Darby Kramer, Jack Holland, Isaac Manley and Henry Kleinert were a solid wall of defence, creating a huge amount of turnovers. Their results were impressive, and to finish as Sandhurst Champions was a credit to their focus and determination. The most consistent players on the day were our captains, Josh Prowse and Isaac Manley, however they were well supported by the terrific teamwork across the whole team.
Thank you so much to Indie Kramer for being the Assistant Coach for the day.
Mrs Jessica Baird, Coach

JUNIOR BOYS A: Mrs Jessica Baird (Coach), Isaac Manley, Jensen Sawyer, Angus Pitcher, Jesse Cox, Henry Kleinert, Indie Kramer (Assistant Coach), Darby Kramer, Hamish Baker, Joshua Prowse, Jack Holland, Darby Lamb
Congratulations to our combined Year 7 and Year 8 B team on a terrific day of competition. The boys grew with confidence across the day and were a credit to themselves as well as the College.
Their results were impressive as they secured wins against Weeroona, BSE 1 & 2, Crusoe and East Loddon. Their major challenge for the day came when they fronted up to play the CMCB A Team in Round 2. It was a terrific match all round, and the boys applied incredible pressure all over the court to challenge the A team and really push them. A 7-goal-to-4 loss may have resulted, but the boys were pumped with how they played.
Jonah defended relentlessly all day, Gus, Archie, Max K, Mitch and Reid all rotated through the midcourt brilliantly whilst Will, Max C and Sam not only shot with precision, but were also moved from end to end either in attack or defence depending on what the team required at the time. The effort the boys put in over all six games was impeccable, and their determination clearly evident. Congratulations boys on a fantastic day.
Thanks to Eddie Mansfield, Ivy Pinner and Emerson Arundell for assisting the team on the day and to Mr Oreo for coaching.

JUNIOR BOYS B: Mitchell Manley, Will Shadbolt, Samuel Gee, Jonah Say, Eddie Mansfield, Mr Gordon Oreo (Coach), Reid Abley, Maxwell Kingdon, Max Carmichael, Archie Walsh, Gus Ritchie

Year 8 Boys started their football campaign strongly.
SCHOOL SPORTS VICTORIA - SANDHURST DIVISION
The Year 8 Boys Football Campaign began on Wednesday 17 June at the Sandhurst Division Competition. The boys were excited to represent the school on what was a brilliant winter’s day with very pleasant conditions.
Game 1: CMCB 11.12.78 defeated Crusoe College 0.0.0
The theme of the day was ‘Be reliable, not remarkable’, with a focus on team-first footy, and the boys kick-started their 2026 campaign with some glorious team footy against Crusoe. Cale Polson’s 50m bomb launched momentum CMCB’s way, off the back of a brilliant slingshot passage of play from half-back to half-forward. That fast-ball movement from defence to attack became the norm across the rest of the game, with Flynn Todd’s elite running and ball use highlighting this style of play. Gus Pitcher cashed in with three goals, providing a presence up forward. Hamish Baker’s midfield brigade, spearheaded by Nash Campbell, were relentless with their contested ball-work and spread. The team finished as 78-point winners and Mr Hann was very impressed with the selfless way the boys played their footy.
Goals: Max Carmichael, Angus Pitcher 3, Cale Polson 2, Brady McDermott, Jack Holland, Hamish Baker, Jesse Cox, Will Shadbolt
Best Players: Nash Campbell, Angus Pitcher, Cale Polson, Flynn Todd
Game 2: CMCB 11.3.69 defeated Bendigo South East College 2.3.15
Game 2 against BSE was identified as a game where the team’s pressure and intensity would need to be up, as BSE were also coming off a comfortable win in their first game.
BSE certainly came to play with a splendid individual effort from their ruckman, tapping the ball to himself and ramming a goal home from 50m, putting them in front after just 10 seconds of play! The next 5 minutes proved to be an arm wrestle, with a lot of congestion and the ball played between the wings. It wasn’t until a nice bit of work by Gus Ritchie in the pocket that CMCB were able to get a score on the board. This triggered a sequence of centre breaks, again spearheaded by Nash Campbell that resulted in quick goals to McDermott, Pitcher, and Harrington. A further two goals were added before halftime, with the CMCB boys now on top after an early scare. In the second half, Shadbolt and McDermott proved far too strong in the air up forward, as the boys finished the game strongly, running out comfortable 54-point winners. The victory was however soured a little by an ankle injury to the bustling Gus Pitcher and a hamstring injury to fellow big man, Cale Polson.
Goals: Gus Ritchie, Brady McDermott 3, Gus Pitcher 3, Callan Harrington, Jack Holland, Cale Polson, Nash Campbell,
Best Players: Brady McDermott, Nash Campbell, Will Shadbolt, Gus Ritchie
Game 3: CMCB 12.6.78 defeated Victory Christian College 0.2.2
With the team’s two dominant tall players out for the final game, the magnets were forced to be moved around. Stoic full-back Henry Kleinert was thrown to full-forward, Shadbolt into the ruck and Cox to centre half back. Coach Hann’s message was clear: despite the previous results, you cannot afford to take this team lightly – especially with only 1 player on the bench. Selfless football would get the job done, but everyone needed to contribute. The message was heard loud and clear as onlookers observed several passages of play that were full of link-up handball and run.
The blonde bombshells, Todd and Campbell, were everywhere, with Prowse and Holland providing lots of transitional ball movement through the midfield. An unlikely hero in Kleinert bobbed up with three goals – and could have had more if it wasn’t for some inaccurate shots. The highlight of the day was saved for the last passage of play. Nash Campbell launched himself onto the shoulders of a Victory forward (Flyin’ Ryan style) in front of gobsmacked students and spectators, taking an incredible hanger. It was a fantastic highlight that capped off a great day as the boys ran out 76-point victors.
Goals: Henry Kleinert 3, Hamish Baker 2, Jack Holland, Callan Harrington, Brady McDermott, Joshua Prowse, Nash Campbell, Max Carmichael, Jensen Sawyer
Best Players: Henry Kleinert, Jack Holland, Nash Campbell, Hamish Baker
Thank you to Tarkyn Ralphs and James Clark for being the team runners and a special mention to Ted Cowan for umpiring on the day.
The team will now progress to the Loddon Mallee Regional Final in Swan Hill on Monday 27 July.
Mr Josh Hann (Coach)

TEAM: Jed Mannix, Marcus Thomas, Brady McDermott, Henry Kleinert, Nash Campbell, Isaac Manley, Angus Pitcher, Cale Polson, Jesse Cox, Will Shadbolt, Jensen Sawyer, Eddie Mansfield, Mr Josh Hann (Coach), Flynn Todd, Jack Holland, Gus Ritchie, Angus Davies, Max Carmichael, Will Tuddenham, Hamish Baker, Jye MacDonald, Joshua Prowse, Alex Kelly, Callen Harrington, Matthew Jennings

The Intermediate Girls Football Team competed for the Sandhurst Division title against Bendigo South East College.
SCHOOL SPORTS VICTORIA - SANDHURST DIVISION
On Friday 12 June, the Intermediate Girls Football Team competed for the Sandhurst Division title, taking on Bendigo South East College in a match played over four 15-minute quarters.
It was a wet, gloomy day, but the vibes were up from the outset. The girls came out firing, with Milla Dalton setting the tone early with a score on the board. This early scoreboard pressure followed Amelia Brown winning plenty of the footy through the midfield and driving the ball forward.
The second quarter rained goals, with Zara Mould, Imogen Brown, Marlie Skinner and Evie Gretgrix all scoring.
Across the ground, the girls showed real determination, getting their heads over the ball and not shying away from the tough contest. It was awesome to see that level of effort in the cool conditions.
In the second half, there was some positional movement which allowed others such as Ruby Kelly, Poppy Carter and Georgia Bray to see more of the ball. The backline was huge all game, continuously rebounding the ball and setting the forwards up for success time and time again. Their work rate and pressure were consistently impressive as they limited BSE's scoring opportunities.
Up forward, Marlie Skinner and Etta Place just couldn’t keep their names off the score sheet, making the most of their opportunities and keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Evie Gretgrix led the way defensively with her tackling pressure, which also inspired those around her.
Although BSE put up a good fight throughout the game and never relented their pressure, they just couldn’t match the quality of the CMCB team.
The final score was CMCB 13.16. 94 def BSE 1.0.6.
This win sees the team progress to the Loddon Mallee Regional Finals to be played in Swan Hill on Wednesday 29 July.
A big thank you to Charlie Neilson and Christopher Mason for being our College Umpires for the day.
Goal Kickers: Etta Place 3, Marlie Skinner 2, Ruby Kelly 2, Milla Dalton, Zara Mould, Imogen Brown, Evie Gretgrix, Poppy Carter, Georgia Bray

UPDATED ARRANGEMENTS AT COOLOCK FROM TERM 2
As a school community, we remain committed to providing a safe, supportive, and focused learning environment for every young person in our care. In recent years, personal digital devices have become an increasingly prominent part of students’ lives – particularly for students in Years 7 to 9 - and with this has come a range of challenges for schools and families.
The Federal Government has recently implemented a social media ban for children under the age of 16, aimed at protecting young people. However, currently, many students’ daily online behaviours remain unchanged.
UPDATED ARRANGEMENTS AT COOLOCK FROM TERM 2
In response, and to better support student wellbeing, learning, and safety, Coolock will be implementing small, but important adjustments to the Student Use of Personal Digital Devices (PDD) Policy and Procedure, effective from the start of Term 2.
These changes apply only to students at Coolock and do not apply to students at St Mary’s.
The updated Policy, Procedure, FAQs, and a student poster are linked belowfor your reference.
In these year levels, we are experiencing:
These behaviours can have serious emotional, social, and legal consequences for young people.

Throughout 2026, we have been celebrating and honouring the pioneering spirit of the founding Sisters and the thousands of children and educators who have been part of the Mercy story.
