Welcome to the final instalment of Year 8 News. We finish this term in style with our biggest fundraising event of the year, Mercy Day.

Each year, Catherine McAuley College Bendigo fundraises for Mercy Works programs. Last year, the College raised over $25,000. This year, we hope to beat this, so please send in your donation of individual chocolates or lollies as prizes for our two stalls. 

Year 8s are running the balloon dart throw and a drinks stall. Alternatively, your child can contribute by volunteering some time to help run one of the stalls throughout the day. The most important thing is that our community is working together for a greater cause.

Please remember that this is a cashless event, so you will need to purchase wristbands.

Commendation Update

Congratulations to our latest recipient of the Bronze Badge, Ebony Muston. Ebony truly does uphold the Mercy Values.

Musician of the Year - VSMF and helpers

Three Year 8s, Rowan Egan, Ruben Speers and Ellie-Rose Reidy, competed in the Musician of the Year when it was held a few weeks ago.

Musicians could choose to compete in one of two sections: classical or contemporary. All three Year 8s in the contemporary section battled it out, competing against 14 other amazing artists in their category. It was a night filled with great music and a wonderful opportunity to make new friends. They all agreed that it was a special experience they will never forget, and they will definitely be taking part again next year.

Digital Thumbprint

During the week, students at Coolock participated in a Digital Thumbprint presentation which aims to empower them to make safe choices online and through social media platforms. More information on this important topic may be found on the Optus Digital Thumbprint website. Parents and carers are encouraged to speak to their children about what was discussed in the workshops.

Library Activities

We completed our Book Week activities and also had an amazing Library activity based on the ‘Escape Room’ games. The students had to read through a series of riddles, find specific books in the library and be the first team to unlock the box. It was heavily contested, and students were really engaged.

Sport Update

Congratulations to the girls in the Year 8 Girls Netball team who competed in the SSV State Netball Finals in Melbourne. The girls made it to the semi-finals before being defeated by Rowville Secondary College. The girls played extremely well on the day and should be proud of their efforts. 

Uniform reminders

Please note that at the start of Term 4, students should wear their summer uniforms. CMCB bucket hats are to be worn outdoors. If the hat is worn or lost, a replacement hat should be purchased. Please ensure you locate this over the break, so it is ready to go on day one. Blazers are not compulsory in Term 4.

Behaviour Updates

It has come to our attention that some students have been misusing the Library facilities, including eating and drinking in the Library, as well as being rude when asked to leave by Library staff. Parents and carers are asked to please check in with your child and remind them to ensure their behaviour is always respectful, and that no food or drink is allowed in the Library.
