VCE Biomedical Sciences Excursion

| LEARNING & TEACHING |

VCE students found out about the many study opportunities in Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne.

On Wednesday 15 October, a group of fifteen enthusiastic Years 10 and 11 Biotechnology and Biology students visited the Biomedical Sciences Precinct in Parkville, Melbourne. The program, hosted by the Gene Technology Access Centre at University High School, aimed to introduce students to the courses, scholarships and opportunities available within the School of Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne.

Students heard presentations from current Biomedicine students about their experiences as students and participated in a series of hands-on activities based on current research projects within the school of Biomedical Science. These included embryology, 3D mapping of proteins and understanding the neural pathways associated with obesity.

After lunch, students enjoyed a visit to the Harry Brookes Allen Museum of Anatomy and Pathology. This contained a fascinating collection of human specimens for students to observe. They also experienced a tour through the human heart wearing virtual reality goggles.
