Spirit of Catherine Awards 2025

The Spirit of Catherine Awards recognise inspiring members of our community who model the Mercy Values and live Catherine's words, 'we should be shining lamps, giving light to all around us'.

As a Mercy community, we strive to encompass the values and teachings modelled by Catherine McAuley. The Spirit of Catherine Awards recognise inspiring members of our community who model the Mercy Values and live Catherine's words, 'we should be shining lamps, giving light to all around us'. Two students from each year level are awarded the prestigious Spirit of Catherine Award each term.

Our Mercy Values are: Respect, Justice, Compassion, Hospitality, Service and Courage.

TERM 3 AWARDS 2025

Congratulations to the following award winners for Term 3, 2025. They were announced at the Mercy Day Liturgy on the final day of Term 3.

Year 7: Delilah Boland

Delilah is a very kind and hardworking student, highly regarded by staff and students alike, who demonstrates the Mercy Values of Hospitality and Respect daily. Like Catherine, she brings a calm and thoughtful presence to her school community. Delilah approaches her learning with great care and determination, always striving to do her best, making her a wonderful role model for her fellow students.

Year 7: Xavier Merrett

Xavier is very respectful and friendly student, who consistently demonstrates the Mercy Values of Service and Hospitality. Like Catherine, he goes above and beyond the call of duty to make new students feel welcome and assist them in settling into their new community. In class, Xavier displays an excellent attitude and work ethic, and he often assists peers who may be experiencing difficulty, making him a valued member of our school community.

Year 8: Anthony Han

Anthony exemplifies pride in our school community through his actions, attitude, and dedication. He consistently exceeds expectations, demonstrating respect in every setting—towards staff, peers, and the learning environment. Anthony’s kindness is unwavering, making him a valued and trusted member of our school. Whether in the classroom, the yard, or in the wider community, he leads by example with humility and integrity.

Year 8: Tha Eh Thaw

Tha Eh Thaw consistently demonstrates kindness, respect, and responsibility in every aspect of her learning. She approaches each day with a positive attitude, treats others with genuine care, and always strives to do her best. Her thoughtful actions and strong sense of integrity make her a role model in our school community. As a loyal and supportive friend, she is always there to lend a hand or a listening ear. Her quiet leadership and unwavering commitment to doing what’s right, even when it's difficult, will make a lasting impact.

Year 9: Franceska Cyrille Valerio

Franceska quietly exemplifies the spirit of Catherine McAuley through her respectful, inclusive, and compassionate presence within our College community. Her academic generosity reflects a deep commitment to service, as she patiently supports and uplifts her peers with humility and grace. Franceska fosters thoughtful dialogue, honours diverse perspectives, and strengthens our shared sense of belonging. Her actions are guided by a sincere desire to live out the Mercy values in everyday life.

Year 9: Lexie Walsh

Lexie is a remarkable member of the school community, consistently demonstrating dedication, empathy, and a positive attitude. She gives up her lunch breaks to support school sports, participating in trials, umpiring, coaching, and offering valuable advice to teachers. Her caring nature shines through in the way she checks in on her friends and always greets teachers with a warm smile. Academically, Lexie puts in genuine effort, showing a strong commitment to her learning. Her contributions and character make her an invaluable asset to the school.

Year 10: Felix Mensah

Felix exemplifies the Mercy value of respect through the way he engages with all students and staff at the College. Felix has been embraced by the CMCB community as he demonstrates kindness and compassion to everyone he encounters. He is always happy to have a conversation with anyone and shows leadership in the way he carries himself in class and in the yard. Through his engagement in the school community and with his peers and teachers, Felix is helping to make the school a better place for everyone.

Year 10: Lexie Fennell

Lexie demonstrates the Mercy values of hospitality, compassion and respect, as she is always willing to support people in need and step out of her comfort zone. Whether it is helping a classmate who may be struggling with a difficult subject or offering a shoulder to cry on, Lexie is always there, embodying the spirit of empathy and showing her understanding of the importance of our Mercy values. Lexie represents both the school and herself with pride, through her commitment to co-curricular activities and in her leadership. She is an excellent role model to all those in our school and the wider community.

Year 11: Jake Gribble

Jake consistently embodies the Mercy values in both his actions and character. Whether in the classroom or yard, Jake treats everyone with compassion and respect, showing genuine care in the way he interacts with his peers and the staff. He demonstrates courage and service throughout the delivery of sporting sessions to junior students and has been willing to take on leadership opportunities to enhance his learning. Jake never seeks recognition, but his quiet determination and strong work ethic speak volumes. Jake serves as a role model through his integrity, respect and kindness towards others.

Year 11: Matilda Meersbergen

Matilda is a vital member of the Year 11 community and leads with kindness, respect and consideration for others. She is an active participant in all College activities and has shown great courage to speak up and get out of her comfort zone during some of these. In class, staff and students have voiced how respectful she is to all, as she goes out of her way to be kind to others, making others feel comfortable in class and ensuring everyone feels included in class activities. Matilda exemplifies our Mercy values of both compassion and respect and has shown enormous growth throughout this year.

Year 12: Jay Thackar

Jay is an exemplary student who is diligent and contributes positively to the learning environment. He is considerate of other students' needs and willing to support others' learning. Jay is humble in his approach and volunteers to take leadership roles in class. In his Living Mercy class, he was instrumental in raising funds for Caritas, approaching businesses with maturity and articulating the support required. The class raised $570.

Year 12: Isabella Makris

Isabella is an unassuming student who always endeavours to contribute and make a difference both inside and outside the classroom. She is an enthusiastic learner and often volunteers to take on extra tasks to support those around her. Isabella is a cheerful and caring member of our community, and we commend her on the dedication she has shown to the Mercy Values, in particular hospitality, service, and respect.

TERM 2 AWARDS 2025

Congratulations to the following award winners for Term 2, 2025. They were announced at end-of-term assemblies at each campus on the final day of Term 2.

Year 7: Archie McCullough

Archie is a selfless individual who models the values of compassion and respect, living mercy on a daily basis. Like Catherine he is always putting others first, helping classmates in overcoming any challenges they may be experiencing in and out of the classroom. He shows an exemplary attitude and work ethic as he aims to be the best he can be. Archie communicates respectfully with staff and students alike and makes a positive contribution to everything that he undertakes, making him a valued member of our College community.

Year 7: Hannah Torney

Hannah has fully immersed herself as a member of our Mercy community, embodying the Mercy Values of Service and Respect by volunteering at the school production and Opening Mass and through her involvement with the FIRE Carrier program, Reconciliation Month activities and music events. Like Catherine, Hannah shows a high level of care and support for others and a great dedication to her studies, making her a wonderful role model for her peers.

Year 8: Isari Gamlath

Isari demonstrates aspects of all the Mercy values. She is very respectful within the classroom and demonstrates the highest level of work ethic and resilience. Isari is a quiet student who applies herself to all tasks to the best of her ability, along with a willingness to learn further through questioning and collaboration.

Year 8: Jonothan Peters

Jonothan excels within the Mercy values. He shows quiet confidence and courage to excel in all areas of our community through not only his words, but through action. Jonothan consistently shows kindness and empathy through his interactions with staff and students, applies himself to his learning and encourages those around him to strive for excellence.

Year 9: Amelia Kelly

Amelia is regarded by peers and staff as a dependable, responsible and compassionate member of the class who consistently shows a genuine concern for others. She regularly volunteers to take part in College and classroom activities, as well as our year-level assemblies. Amelia maintains a positive attitude in class, is always willing to help her peers, and displays empathy and maturity during conversations. Her many qualities serve as an inspiration to others and establish her as a commendable role model.

Year 9: Macey Pinner

Macey has shown the true meaning of community and service through her efforts in supporting junior sports teams during trials and training sessions. She has shown the ability to organise sessions, provide strategies, and take part as a player, while keeping a friendly and supportive environment for students. Macey’s willingness to utilise her break times to benefit others is truly aligned with our College values.

Year 10: Zahri Kean

Throughout her semester with the iGEN program, Zahri consistently showed a willingness to serve the community, without desire for recognition or fanfare. She has taken time to hear the interests of the residents and then planned activities to maximise the residents’ and students’ enjoyment in the program. Zahri has worked with her peers, showed flexibility and adaptability through various challenges, and done it all without fuss. Zahri is to be commended for the way in which she demonstrated the Mercy value of Service this semester.

Year 10: Eh Kla Soe

Eh Kla consistently demonstrates the Mercy values of respect, compassion and hospitality. He is a young person who sees the needs of others in his classes and invites them to join in or will assign himself as a partner for those who may be on their own. Eh Kla is dedicated to his studies and always does his very best. He also showcased his talents in the 2025 CMCB production of ‘The Addams Family’, taking on a leading role and showing courage in stepping out of his comfort zone. Eh Kla is kind and respectful to others and is very deserving of this award.

Year 11: Angus Christensen

Angus is a kind-hearted student who is willing to give his time selflessly to others. He listens and respects students’ and staffs’ views and is genuinely interested in what they have to say. Angus’ caring nature is shown in his day-to-day interactions. He takes his learning seriously and always strives to give 100 percent to all tasks. He is considerate of those around him and is the first to jump in and help when needed. When off-site, whether it is at Structured Workplace Learning or class excursions, he models CMCB’s values and is an excellent representative of our College.

Year 11 Luca Evans

Luca is a determined young man who strives to do his best in all aspects of school life, demonstrating the Mercy values every day. Luca is always organised for class and ensures that when he has days away from school for camp he emails teachers to ensure he has completed all work. Luca shows maturity beyond his years in understanding and appreciating the work that teachers put into classes and shows that appreciation by thanking his teachers after each class. The respect Luca shows is not reserved for his teachers. Luca regularly helps his classmates where he sees a need, rather than simply focusing on his own score.

Year 12: Molly Chalkley

Molly demonstrated significant leadership skills and initiative during the Living Mercy Fundraising project. She made posters, liaised with the Finance Office and steamed the milk for the Hot Chocolate activity. Molly was always happy to help and was an enthusiastic team member for this activity. The group raised an amazing $542.20 for the Vinnies Winter Appeal in support of those less fortunate.

Year 12: Tarah Frawley

Tarah was an integral part of the CMCB production this year. She stepped up as choreographer and helped make The Addams Family musical run a success. Tarah put her heart and soul into the production and is to be congratulated for having the courage to take on a leadership role and support her fellow students.
